Glenfern Sanctuary – Pest Free Paradise

Saturday 25th November

Glenfern Sanctuary is a predator-controlled area in Port Fitzroy Harbour where threatened and endangered species are able to thrive.  See how one man’s vision can make a difference.  Get up close with our giant weta, brown teal, black petrel and a 600 year old pohutukawa tree.

This 2 km walk takes you along a well formed track through native bush, regenerating and old forest, incorporating a swing bridge into the canopy of a 400 year old kauri tree.  Learn about the restoration of Kotuku Peninsula, where over 15,000 trees have been planted covering 230 ha.

Then head over to Sunset Rock for one of the best views on the island.
